如何理解Explain your startup optimization / 冷启动优化项目?
标准回答
I’d like to talk about a cold-start optimization project for an Android application in an intelligent cockpit.
The goal was to make the application respond faster and complete startup sooner. We tracked two project-specific metrics: startup response time and startup completion time.
I used Perfetto to break down the startup timeline and examine the initialization process. My focus was on understanding which operations were on the critical path and which could be moved out of it.
The changes included asynchronous layout inflation, ViewStub, and deferred initialization using IdleHandler. These techniques helped us avoid doing all the work at the beginning of startup.
However, moving work to a background thread is not always enough. We also need to consider dependencies, thread safety, and when the result is actually needed. Similarly, delaying a task should not make the first user interaction slower.
After the optimization, the response time decreased from 380 to 240 milliseconds. The completion time decreased from 1,200 to 700 milliseconds.
My main takeaway is that performance optimization should be based on evidence. We need to understand the critical path, make targeted changes, and check both performance and functional correctness.
